The AP HSSI CE interface module offers a HSSI circuit emulation function to the Access Processor platform, enabling the convergence of HSSI services into the ATM switch, e.g. routers, encrypters or satellite modems. The HSSI port supports symmetrical, asymmetrical and uni-directional operation at data rates up to 100Mbps, via a 50-way SCSI-2 connector.
The incoming HSSI data stream is segmented into ATM cells using unstructured AAL.1 adaptation. At the remote end, the HSSI clock is recovered and the original bit stream is reassembled. End to end timing is maintained through the use of adaptive clocking and jitter attenuation.
The HSSI module provides a DCE interface for direct connection to a router generating both the transmit and receive clocks. These clocks are separately configurable between 1kbps and 100Mbps in 1bps steps.
For connection to another DCE, for example a satellite modem, a cross-over cable is required, and the HSSI module can be configured to slave off this incoming clock ensuring no clock slips and 100% data integrity.
These modules are "Hot Swappable" to ease maintenance, with replacement modules recovering immediately without further configuration.
This module collects and collates physical layer statistics, whilst flexible clocking modes remove network synchronisation problems.
Management and configuration of this module is achieved via the simple menu driven user interface of the Access Processor which also supports SNMP traps.
